WHAT DO YOU GET ?

  • Arrival transportation from airport to Host Family or Volunteer Housing for most projects.
  • For most projects in Cape Town, one full day or half day excursion is included. We will appoint a supervisor for you at your project for the duration of your program and arrange all paperwork, placement details as well as act as your liaison with the Volunteer Program for your time in Africa.
  • Almost all projects include 2-3 meals each day which are either prepared for or by the volunteers. Some projects do not include meals during weekends.
  • Donation per month to the Volunteer Project, to assist in their funding.
  • Toll-free telephone number to You2Africa's office during office hours, assistance and support by Staff and Counselors in your area.
  • A Completion Certificate & Report on your Volunteer Program should this be required for studies or other purposes.
  • Accommodation in one of the following:

ACCOMODATION:

PROJECTS BASED IN/NEAR CAPE TOWN

  • A Host Family (which is paid by the program) in the community where your Program operates. Accommodation is included for the duration of the Program, including breakfast and dinner (7 days a week). Please note that this accommodation can be basic and the Volunteer is expected to eat as their Host Family does. If you have special dietary needs you should provide this for yourself.
  • A Volunteer House houses volunteers from several programs in the area.  The Volunteer House is backpacker style accommodation and is completely self-catering. Breakfast and Dinner meals included during the week. Lunch and weekend food costs are your own responsibility. Expect to pay on average $100 USD per month for your food budget. The Volunteer House has an outside barbeque area and is very conducive to socializing. This option involves additional accommodation fees that are not included in the program fee for Home Stays.

PROJECTS BASED OUTSIDE OF CAPE TOWN (EXCEPT TEACHING PROJECT IN JOHANNESBURG):

  • A Volunteer House for all other programs based in Namibia, Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth, or the Eastern Cape. Volunteers on your project and other local projects will live together in these houses. Most projects include all breakfasts and dinners either prepared for you or you will be given a food allowance and thus responsible to prepare at the house.

For those who are placed in projects based in or near Cape Town, we recommend that volunteers get out and about and explore Cape Town over the weekends. Public transport in South Africa is not as reliable as in the USA, especially after dark, and a private cab back to your host family could cost the same as a flight to Johannesburg! So, a good way to get the most out of Cape Town's nightlife is to stay at a Backpackers Hostel in the middle of the city over the weekend.

For projects outside of Cape Town, many of these may be located in more rural areas.
